Installing Armstrong Floors in Your Home

Learn about the flooring installation method for all types of hard surface flooring.

We all know that Armstrong offers a variety of flooring options to fit your style and needs. What we don’t all know is how to install them. Many Armstrong floors are designed with a do-it-yourselfer in mind. For others, however, it is recommended to have a skilled professional installer to the job. Here is a summary of the different flooring types with the recommended installation method for each.

Hardwood Flooring

Install using nails, staples, or cleats. Some engineered floors may be installed by locking.

Experience level:  Intermediate-advanced DIYer or a professional hardwood installer. A beginner or intermediate DIYer can tackle some locking installations for engineered floors, but a skilled DIYer or professional should handle glue-down, staples and cleats.

Laminate Flooring

Locking installation.

Experience level: Beginner or intermediate DIYers.

Vinyl Flooring

The most common installation method is a full spread adhesive installation.

Experience level: Only an experienced DIYer or professional should install resilient vinyl sheet.

Don’t forget to read all the instructions before beginning an installation to avoid problems down the road.
