Floor Shopping Guide – Part 2

Floor shopping is fun! Learn what you need to know about shopping for a floor online, and then visit a flooring distributor or retailer to talk with an expert about your selections.

Okay, so you’ve done your homework: you’ve got your measurements and it’s finally time to shop! But first, remember – stick to your budget! There are many beautiful options available, so it’s easy to get carried away.

There are basically two places to shop for flooring: a flooring retailer’s showroom or a flooring distributor. Most of the time, you’re going to browse for a floor online before you venture out to a store. This way you can check out designs, colors, specs, installation methods, etc., ahead of time and get a solid feel for what you like and what you can afford. Use manufacturers’ websites like Armstrong to learn about the different products available. When you’re ready, you can use Armstrong’s website to locate a retailer that is close to you.

The next step is out the door – to a flooring distributor or retailer.

Here are few things to take with you:

  • Measurements
  • Room layout diagram
  • Decorating elements – pillows, paint charts, fabric swatches, anything portable that you plan to use to decorate your room
  • Photos of the space
  • Flooring Samples

Once you’ve answered these questions, you’re ready to create a budget. You can either do it yourself or get professional help.

  • Will this floor work in my bathroom? Kitchen? Living room? Basement?
  • Can I install this floor myself?
  • How easy is this floor to clean?
  • Have any customers ever had any issues with this floor?

After you have all your questions answered and you’re satisfied with your floor, it’s time to buy!
Next: It’s installation time.
